- CAS No.: 714229‑20‑6
- INS / E number: INS 969, E 969
- Appearance: White to pale yellow crystalline powder
- Sweetness potency: Approximately 20,000–37,000 × sucrose; around 100 × aspartame
- Solubility: Very slightly soluble in water; sparingly soluble in ethanol; solubility rises with temperature
- Calorie: Near zero; no contribution to blood glucose
- Originator: Ajinomoto (Japan)联合国粮食...
Sensory & Functional Features
- Clean, sugar‑like taste: Minimal bitter, metallic or lingering off‑notes compared with many other high‑intensity sweeteners.
- Excellent flavour enhancer: Strengthens fruit, citrus, dairy and mint notes; masks unpleasant aftertastes from protein, vitamins and minerals.
- Good synergism: Blends well with sucrose, fructose, stevia, sucralose, acesulfame K and other sweeteners to cut total sweetener cost and optimise taste profile.
- Thermal & pH stability: More stable than aspartame; suitable for most food processing, though degradation accelerates under prolonged heating and strong acidic conditions.
- Low usage dosage: Effective at ppm levels, so only tiny addition is required.
Main Applications
Soft drinks, carbonated beverages, frozen desserts, ice cream, yoghurt and dairy products, confectionery, chewing gum, baked goods, tabletop sweeteners, sauces, dressings, nutritional and sports food, plant‑based dairy alternatives.
Note: Generally not approved for meat and poultry in most major jurisdictions.
Regulatory Status
Approved for general food use by FDA, EFSA, JECFA, FEMA GRAS (#4716), China, Japan, Australia, Canada, Singapore, Malaysia, etc. It is permitted under GMP principle or specified maximum limits for different food categories.
