Mianserin hydrochloride is an odourless, creamy‑white crystalline powder. It is soluble in water, ethanol, methanol and chloroform. Melting point >230 °C (decomposition). Stable under proper dry‑cool storage conditions.

Pharmacological Profile

Mianserin hydrochloride is a tetracyclic antidepressant. It exerts therapeutic effects mainly by blocking presynaptic α₂‑adrenoceptors, 5‑HT₂A / 5‑HT₂C serotonin receptors and histamine H₁ receptors, which elevates synaptic noradrenaline and serotonin levels in the central nervous system. It shows weak anticholinergic activity compared with classic tricyclic antidepressants, with favourable sedative and anxiolytic properties.

Therapeutic Indications

It is indicated for the treatment of major depressive disorders, including endogenous depression, reactive depression and involutional melancholia.
