Product Description

Generic Name: Enlicitide Decanoate

Chemical Class: Orally‑active macrocyclic‑peptide PCSK9 inhibitorMSD

Mechanism of Action: Enlicitide decanoate is a synthetic macrocyclic peptide. It selectively binds to circulating proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9), blocks PCSK9‑mediated degradation of hepatic low‑density‑lipoprotein receptors (LDLR). Increased surface LDLR population enhances hepatic clearance of LDL‑C, non‑HDL‑C, apolipoprotein B and lipoprotein(a) from bloodstream, delivering robust lipid‑lowering effect.

Indications (FDA‑approved, Lipfendra®, July 2026)

As an adjunct to diet and exercise:

  1. Reduce low‑density‑lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL‑C) in adult patients with primary hypercholesterolemia.
  2. Reduce LDL‑C in adult patients with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HeFH).

Administration: Oral tablet, once‑daily dosing. May be used alone or combined with statins and other lipid‑lowering agentsDailyMed.

Key Notes

  • First‑in‑class oral PCSK9 inhibitor, alternative to injectable PCSK‑9 monoclonal antibodies (alirocumab, evolocumab).
  • The marketed finished tablet contains enlicitide decanoate; research‑grade material is for laboratory use only, not for human clinical administration.
